Women's Fitness Model

Suit Selection/Athlete Attire

All posing suits and shoes will be evaluated at Athlete Registration the day before the event.

Posing suits (Round 1 and 2) must be two-piece bikini-style posing suits, covering a minimum of half of the gluteus maximus and all of the frontal area.  Competitors must wear clear heels for both rounds.  The heel must be no higher than 5” and the sole no higher than 1 1/2”.   NPAA will provide competitor numbers that are to be worn on the left side of the posing suit.

G-strings, Thongs, and platform heels are not permitted

Small earrings and wedding rings are permitted

• The IFPA Pro Division for NPAA Fitness Models has the current label of “IFPA Pro Bikini”

 

Women's Fitness Model classes will be announced after height check at registration.  Please note that if there are more than 15 competitors in a Division, there will be 2 classes.  For example:

• Short Class = 5’4” and under

• Tall Class = 5’4” and over

 

Please Note: Even and fair division of the classes will be the primary focus at each event. 

 


 

Crossovers

Fitness Model competitors can only enter up to 2 classes:
• 
Open, Novice, Elite-Pro, or Masters
Fitness Model competitors are permitted to crossover to Figure

• Open, Novice, Elite-Pro, or Masters Fitness Model competitors are permitted to crossover to Bikini Model

• Open, Novice, or Elite-Pro Fitness Model competitors are permitted to crossover to Masters Fitness Model

 

Judging Criteria

Women’s Fitness Model judging takes five elements into account:

• Muscularity – overall size of muscle groups must not be excessive (unlike bodybuilding category).  Visible signs of strength training should present a toned and athletic appearance (less muscular than figure category).

• Definition – the degree of muscularity brought about by the absence of subcutaneous body fat must not be excessive (unlike bodybuilding category).  Hence, fitness model competitors should not display deeply drawn-in faces, no striations should be visible, and there should be a reasonable level of body fat to display a toned physique.  Visible abdominal separations are acceptable.

• Proportion – equal balance of development between muscle groups

• Symmetry – equal balance of development between each side of the physique

• Stage Presentation – ability to display physique during comparisons, marketability, skin tone, make-up, suit selection, and confidence during quarter turn comparisons/T-walk.

 

Round 1

Competitors are brought on stage in a line up facing the judges in relaxed pose (description of relaxed pose outlined below).  At that point each competitor is introduced individually and asked to perform a Fitness Model T-walk.  A T-walk consists of the following:

• Walking out to rear centre stage and pausing briefly in a stance of choice

• Then walk up to the front centre stage (pause/pose)

• Then walk to stage left (pause/pose)

• Then walk to stage right (pause/pose)

• Then walk to front centre stage (pause/pose)

• Finally walk back to their place in the competitor line up (relaxed pose)

Each competitor will have 20 to 30 seconds to complete their T-walk.

IN THE EVENT OF A COMPETITION THAT EXCEEDS 90 ATHLETES, PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING POSING CRITERIA IN ROUND 1 FOR NOVICE, OPEN, AND MASTERS FITNESS MODELS*:

  • A 20 second "5 point turn" at Centre Stage will be completed in Round 1 to provide the judging panel enough time to evaluate the physique of each athlete at that time. 
  • 5 point turn is as follows:

*NPAA reserves the right to apply the 5-point turn to the Elite-Pro Category as well

Once all of the competitors have completed their presentation, the entire class will be instructed to complete

the following quarter turns (turning right)

• Quarter turn Right (Right Pose)

• Quarter turn Back (Back Pose)

• Quarter turn Right (Left Pose)

• Quarter turn Front (Front Pose)

Both feet must be flat on the floor and head must face the same direction that feet are pointing during quarter turns.

The judges may ask to see certain competitors together and change the order of the lineup at any time during group comparisons, and may request to see certain poses again for closer comparison of select individuals. Please be sure to practice the quarter turns accordingly as improper execution of these poses may prevent the “best” physique from winning.

Costumes and/or props are not permitted

 

Round 2

Competitors are brought back on stage in a line up facing the judges (relaxed pose).  Each competitor is then introduced individually and instructed to walk to the front centre of the stage where she will do two or three poses of her choice (each lasting no more than three seconds).  The competitor will then walk back to her place in the lineup (relaxed pose). 

Costumes and/or props are not permitted

Top 5 competitors are announced for their respective class.

Description of Relaxed Pose:  Head facing forward, right leg straight, left leg is slightly bent and in front. Right hand is placed on your hip. Left arm hangs relaxed at the side with elbow slightly bent (no further than 3 inches from the body).

Description of Front Pose:  Head facing front of stage/same direction as the body, heels together, arms hanging relaxed along sides of the body, fingertips no further than 3 inches from the body.

Description of Right Pose:  Head facing same direction as body (not facing judges), heels together, arms hanging relaxed along sides of the body.

Description of Back Pose:  Head facing back of stage/same direction as the body, heels together, arms hanging relaxed along sides of the body, fingertips no further than 3 inches from the body.

Description of Left Pose:  Head facing same direction as body (not facing judges), heels together, arms hanging relaxed along sides of the body.
